The first four months: what do we have with our podcasts?
-Our daily average audience is up to 142
-Our grand total of listeners is 5538
Now for a breakdown analysis. We do this to see what subjects are the most popular. This could measure Strephon’s growing ability to give talks also, but is more likely to be subject oriented. Listeners are more interested in the subject than in Strephon’s delivery style, though of course delivery style is important.
The most crucial thing is the issue, is Strephon saying anything new for most people, and so they benefit from listening to these talks?
Does Strephon Says have something to say? Does Strephon Says deliver the goods? Does Strephon Says do what it says its focus is: to give clarity and insight on life’s issues?
ANALYSIS OF SUBJECT POPULARITY
Method: in four months and over five thousand listener downloads we have enough numbers to be able to sample reliably what subjects so far have the most interest to the most listeners. To do this we take the latest week of listeners, seven days, and total up the number of listeners for each subject of importance. Here are the results.
The order is by total number of listeners, though some podcasts have not been up as long as others. To counterbalance this we are taking the most recent week, though since it is recent maybe more listeners go to it as being new, because ongoing listeners will only select the most recent, having heard probably the previous podcasts.
1. Sexual Ethics In Families (713, age: 24 days)
2. The Truth Of Sexual Orgasm (451, age: 3 months)
3. Forth Fret Guitar Meditation (297, age: 28 days)
4. Childhood-Adult Dreams (296, age: 4 months)
5. How To Love A Woman (293, age: 3 months)
We see so far from the above that totals are not directly based on most recent but more on subject. We take only the top five to keep this analysis short. In total there have been 31 podcasts so far since April 16, 2006.
Please note, as we say in our purpose statement, these podcasts are not primarily to entertain but to give inspiration and clarity about life’s issues. You gain in perspective about life and about yourself from these talks. Thus, while our numbers are significant, they are naturally smaller than top entertainment programs or language learning programs.
We are working to reach an audience working on being self-aware and living from inner resources and values. Over five thousand listens is not bad so far though we do not know yet much if anything about the number in our total audience since certain listeners will listen to more than one pod-cast. However, even if a listener listens to more than one pod-cast that is a plus value indicating effectiveness in reaching people with our perspective and usefulness for living life, our goal.
Now we do a one-week analysis of the top five.
By a one-week sampling a new ranking order is as follows:
1. How To Love A Woman (293, age: 3 months. One week: 206 listeners
2. Sexual Ethics In Families (713, age: 24 days). One week: 162 listeners
3. The Truth Of Sexual Orgasm (451, age: 3 months). One week: 90 listeners
4. Forth Fret Guitar Meditation (297, age: 28 days). One week: 40 listeners
5. Childhood-Adult Dreams (296, age: 4 months). One week: 24 listeners
We see that “How To Love A Woman” was the most popular topic in the most recent week. Even though in totals for four months it was fifth, it has moved into first place. Thus in the long run it may become the most popular.
Most recent podcasts will be swelled with new listeners, but some of these new listeners will also look back to click on other podcasts to listen to.
It is great to see that in one week we have anywhere from 206 to 24 listeners for these subjects.
In Strephon’s live teaching and speaking to the public his audiences numbered usually 70 for talks and 10-15 for classes. Thus his outreach is already greater without having to travel or show up for training sessions in the same room with live bodies.
Of course not getting paid, unless people donate, means that being with live bodies is better income to help one live life’s daily needs.
We can now evaluate: Is it worth putting in the four hours time each of these podcasts requires? When you consider writing them, and writing others that never get into being as a talk, and doing the editing and the work to put them on blogs and directories, what value is there for the author?
The larger question: what value is there for the teacher to teach?
The teacher does not like to answer this question! Do listeners and student learn from him really? Does what he shares with them make a significant difference?
What feedback does The Teacher get from his considerable effort in “give away” to others?
This is a reality question. Why put effort into something that has little beneficial effects for others and the author-teacher, if this is so?
We are working in the dark. Listeners and students don’t often respond with gifts or feedback, so the dialogue is mostly one-way. This is unfortunate. This is reality.
Fortunately a very few do respond in dialogue, and fewer yet with gifts as a balanced energy exchange.
One must do this kind of work as a gift to the universe.
This is reality.
As one receives, one gives.
The author has received much from his teachers over the years, but also paid out much to them in money and labor. Now, in this World Wide Web situation there is little return in feedback or in money.
In live talks the author always had extensive question-asking and answering after his talk. Here that rarely happens. He also got an adequate salary for his efforts and expenses in travel and living in order to do a talk.
Now he is a voice through electronics called a computer. So be it!
This is reality!
